I heard someone say not long ago that “anything that can be controlled, can be exhausted.”
Which means those resources we have and need for our day-to-day lives, can run low.
The emotional exhaustion that comes when we’ve been caring for someone who can’t take care of themselves.
The mental exhaustion that comes when we are trying to make our last dollar stretch into next week.
The decision fatigue that comes when other people are counting on us to guide and direct them.
The willpower we need to stay on track with our healthy choices that wanes around dinnertime each day.
These are things we have some control over. We can put things in place to help us pace ourselves. We can step outside for a break or delegate and plan ahead.
But eventually, we can run out of the gas we need in our tanks to keep these things moving along.
Our biological and psychological limits will remind us that we can in fact, become depleted, tapped out and exhausted.
For the believer in Christ, our limits are a little different.
We are held together physically by our earthly bodies, but we have the promises of scripture to rest on when we are weary.
Christ can’t be controlled, and therefore, can not be exhausted.
This is the God we serve.
Our strength comes from the Lord, and that strength has no end.
He cannot be drained, weakened or tuckerd out.
And we have His resources at our disposal.
He Gives Us Grace
“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:7
He Encourages Us in Our Waiting
“Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord.” Psalm 27:14
He Gives Us His Peace
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27
He Brings Healing
“He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds.” Psalm 147:3
He Will Never Leave Us
“…And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20b
He Never Meant for Us to Try to Control it All
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6
As you start a new year, if you find yourself gripping your plans with white knuckles or shifting your eyes to and fro from a vulnerable place, write these scriptures down. Place them in the front pages of your fresh, new journal and thank God for them.
These bones covered in flesh will naturally become exhausted over time.
Bur not our souls
Christ has no beginning or end. He is our resource that will never run dry, empty, or out.
Our God is a good God, He is good at being God, and that is all the strength we need.
Kellie
