For the One Who Feels Unseen

I was reminded recently of a time where I felt invisible.

Physical symptoms had plagued me for a while. Doctor appointments were set. Blood was drawn. Follow-ups were had.

I was scared.

I confided in a friend or two then about what was happening. But, over the course of time, I noticed they had not circled back to check-up on me.

I didn’t feel heard. I didn’t feel seen. It was a drafty place to stand.

I began to equate feeling invisible, to feeling insignificant.

That was a long time ago.

I’ve come to learn there is truth that trumps how I feel and, has stood the test of time. Truth that is not subjective. Truth that champions my heart, and yours, if you will let it.

“So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Matthew 10:31

The Message translation of Matthew 10:31 says “…don’t be intimidated by all this bully talk.”

To paraphrase…when fearful, intimidating thoughts try to lead the way, remember your worth.

Remember, because sometimes, we need reminding.

Thoughts roll through our minds, shaking our confidence. They tell us no one cares. They tell us sometimes, we have to face trials alone.

It’s oppressiveness that can lead to hopelessness. And this, is not from God.

In an upside-down Kingdom, a lonely place can transform into the secret place.

A space for our hearts to sit at the feet of Jesus uninterrupted. A space to pour our souls into His hands. Hands that hold our private struggles with such tenderness and care.

In the secret place, we are seen, we are heard and we are held.

In the secret place, we share breath with the One who will see us through our troubles. We have access to the One who is making a way through our struggles. We eat His bread and drink His life giving water that sustains us through what we are going through.

Invisibility to the world, does not equate insignificance to God.

What if we took the negligence we sometimes experience, and let it push us down?

Down low.

To posture in prayer. To place our hurt at the feet of the One who hand picked us as His own.

What if that was the why behind these moments?

These moments of feeling invisible.

Feeling unseen is a universal problem.

Surrendering our tears and trials to the only one who can be trusted, is the answer.

Lord,

With thoughts of invisibility looming in our minds, draw us down to your feet. Help us to remember, we are precious in your sight.

Amen
