Consider This…

Why should I consider Jesus?

I’ve heard this question ring over the years, whether in articles, on podcasts, or in my own head as a teen.

Social media is a funny thing. I’ve used it to share pictures with family who live far away, document fun weekends with friends, ask for prayers for my family, and hand out a little hope to anyone who needs it. If social media has taught me anything over the years, it’s this:

1. There is a need for hope beyond what we can see

2. Most people are desperate to connect with others

My personal experience in both of these areas, always brings me back to the Bible. The best-selling book of all times. The most widely distributed, studied, scrutinized, and yet, leaned on, book in our history.

Why? Because in those pages, there is hope eternal. Story after story of communities meeting needs for one another. Principles, promises and purpose for each of us.

Maybe you considered this faith at some point, and man-made religion got in the way and blurred your vision of who Jesus really is.  Maybe you were once an active part of the big C church, and now you have left the building.  Still curious.  Possibly confused.  Maybe a little mad.

What if you did some untangling? What if you placed the teachings from your childhood over to the left, you took your doubts and questions and pushed them to the right, and took hold of the Bible and pulled it forward? And you just considered that it might be true. Especially the words written in red.

Why?  Because you know that placing faith in your circumstances doesn’t always work out.

You may wind up with more questions than you have answers for. You may wind up frustrated. But, if you keep pushing through, if you stay consistent, reading a little of God’s word (that’s how He talks to us), and speaking back to Him (whether out loud, or on paper), I believe you’ll find some hope.

And the hope you’ll find on those pages, will not disappoint.

…But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?  But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently”  Romans 8:24-25

If you aren’t sure where to begin reading, start in the book of John.  Get to know Jesus. You may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.
